Funny Fridays: Because It Is Better to Laugh than to Cry!

When my grandson Billy and I entered our vacation cabin, we kept the lights off until we were inside to keep from attracting pesky insects. Still, a few fireflies followed us in.

Noticing them before I did, Billy whispered, “It’s no use, Grandpa. The mosquitoes are coming after us with flashlights.”

A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like. “We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods.”

The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this in. At last she said, “I sure wish I’d gotten to know you sooner!”

“Oh, I sure am happy to see you,” the little boy said to his grandmother on his mother’s side. “Now maybe Daddy will do the trick he has been promising us.”

The grandmother was curious. “What trick is that?” she asked.

“I heard him tell Mommy that he would climb the walls if you came to visit,” the little boy answered.

    The last one is the best! But the first one is pretty cute too. I remember fireflies. They are magical little guys.

    My grandmother always seemed rather straight-laced when I knew her, but her nickname as a young woman was Feisty. I would liked to have known her sooner, too!

    @ Davina — I grew up with fireflies, but where we live now there aren’t any. It makes me sad that my son didn’t have that wonderful summer nighttime experience. They are magical!

    @ SpaceAgeSage — Feisty is an intriguing nickname! Wonder if anyone in your family has any stories to share with you about her?

    I love your Friday funnies Linda! The first one reminded me of being on vacation out west – no mosquitoes! Now, back home here in Wisconsin, I go outside and am bombarded by them. Maybe if they were flashlights, their batteries would go dead and they would disappear!!! Wishful thinking…
