Speaking
I am available for speaking engagements in a variety of formats: as a keynote speech, breakout session, workshop or seminar, teleconference, as part of a panel discussion, or for a series of monthly or quarterly continuing education meetings. All of my presentations are a mixture of information along with personal anecdotes, experiences, humor and my optimistic attitude about life and its challenges.
I speak on a range of topics regarding family caregiving which can be combined or modified to fit your meeting’s theme, objectives, time frame and audience — families, students, business executives, health care professionals, caregivers, and senior citizens (or as I see them our “Golden Oldies”).
Some Topics to Chose From:
How to Talk About Difficult Subjects with Your Aging Parents
This program provides family caregivers with tips on how to approach and discuss sensitive issues (such as finances, end-of-life planning, and giving up driving) with their aging parents. Communications strategies and considerations about these important discussions will be presented.
How to Communicate with Health Care Professionals Caring for your Aging Parents
This program provides family caregivers ways to communicate most effectively with their aging parents’ medical team (doctors, dentists, nurses, front office staff). How to create an effective health care record keeping system is also included, which can be used for all members of the family, not just aging parents.
How to Communicate with Aging Parents Who Have Memory Loss
This program provides strategies and tips for compassionate communication with aging parents who have memory loss. You can’t control memory loss, but you can control your reaction to it. Memory loss is a disability, just as blindness is, and these tips will help the quality of life for the family’s personal interactions.
What Exactly is Hospice Care?
This program explains the positives about what hospice care provides an aging parent and the patient’s family. There are many misconceptions about hospice that people have; this program explains why it is something to utilize, rather than fear.
And More:
- Communicating effectively (between the generations, family members, with health care professionals, caregivers and facility administration)
- How to help aging parents remain independent as long as possible
- Transitions from independent living to assisted living, board & care facilities, nursing homes or hospice, including how to evaluate and select a facility for your loved ones
- Hospice and end-of-life issues
- Caring for the caregivers
- Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease and its impact on the whole family
- Elder Abuse or Neglect
- Family Caregiving Strategies
